| The South Dakota Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is now offering new options for background checks.
DCI now offers online application prior to fingerprinting that allows them to be submitted by participating at local South Dakota law enforcement agencies. If you choose to pay online, you must submit your fingerprints through a Livescan machine located in South Dakota.
If you reside out of state or your local law enforcement does not have the capability to submit fingerprints electronically, you will need to submit fingerprints through the mail. Before doing this, please call your local Sheriff's or Police Department to schedule and Verify Livescan – If the agency does not have Livescan, we will need to continue mailing Fingerprint Cards. To begin the process, click here. |

| With upcoming software expanding ticket in, ticket out functionality to more machines, the Lottery recommends using stickers on machines to indicate this compatibility.
