Video Lottery Voucher Payments
The Lottery has received reports of video lottery establishments closing video lottery sections off to the public and refusing payment of existing vouchers due to limited cash on hand.
If a player presents staff with a valid video lottery voucher, establishments must provide payment. While many video lottery prizes are fulfilled through cash, these may also be paid by check when necessary.
Video Lottery establishments are also required to have video lottery terminals accessible to the general public during business hours.
Administrative Rules Update
At its March 27 meeting, the Lottery Commission approved administrative rules that will allow video lottery operators and technicians to conduct RAM clears.
The rules will now be heard by the Legislature's Interim Rules Review Committee on May 6.
The Lottery will provide further updates when they are available.
Alcoholic Beverage Requirements
State law prohibits patrons of an establishment of carrying an alcoholic beverage into a different establishment.
In some instances, a building may have multiple video lottery establishments under one roof. If this is the case, please ensure that patrons and staff do not leave an establishment with alcohol.
Per SDCL 35-1-5.6, it is a Class 2 misdemeanor for any person to consume any alcoholic beverage upon the premises of a licensed on-sale dealer if the alcoholic beverage was not purchased from the on-sale dealer.
Per 35-4-75, No on-sale licensee may serve alcoholic beverages except on the premises authorized by the license. A violation of this section is a Class 2 misdemeanor.
